Sam Houston State head coach Rob Hubbard and the women’s tennis team have added Houston transfer Constandena Nicolaou to the squad for the 2019-20 season.
The Bearkats finished fourth in the Southland Conference last season. Sam Houston State advanced to the finals of the SLC postseason tournament for the first time in school history after upsetting top-seeded Abilene Christian in the semifinals.

Nicolaou went 16-5 overall and 12-4 in dual matches for the nationally-ranked Cougars in 2017-18. She was a combined 12-4 playing at No. 4 and 5 singles.
As a freshman, Nicolaou won eight matches for Houston, including a 5-3 record while playing at the No. 5 singles position.
She is ranked 1,239 in the International Tennis Federation rankings.
"I am very pleased to announce the signing of Dena to join our Bearkat tennis program,” Hubbard said. “She brings with her a great amount of success and experience as a starter on a nationally ranked team which should help our tennis program continue to prosper this next season. Dena is a leader who should have an immediate impact on both the singles and doubles lineup while also helping to strengthen the culture we have implemented over the last three years."
In high school, she represented Middlesex County (England) at the Aegon County Cup tournament for four seasons, winning the U18 category in 2015. Nicolaou helped the team get promoted to Division I at the Seniors Summer and Winter County Cup in 2016 and 2018.
