FORT WORTH - Sam Houston State couldn’t get anything going offensively in a 6-0 loss to TCU on the road Thursday evening.
The Bearkats (0-3-0) only mustered two shots in the match. Junior Courtney Pawlik fired the ball at TCU’s net in the 13th minute, but Horned Frog goalkeeper Emily Alvarado came up with the save.
Senior Carlota Suarez-Crespo had the best scoring opportunity of the night, but her header off a free kick hit off the right post in the 77th minute.
Messiah Bright got TCU (2-1-0) on the board with a goal in the 11th minute. She got a one-on-one with the defender thanks to a pass from Tara Smith and was able to sneak around to get a shot past SHSU keeper Tatum Krueger.
Less than 90 seconds later, Bright and Grace Collins set up another goal for the Horned Frogs by Yazmeen Ryan to make it 2-0.
TCU, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament last year and are receiving votes in the top 25 polls, received goals by Gracie Brian (21st and 52nd minutes), Bright (57th minute) and Maddy Warren (64th minute).
The Bearkats will be back in action Sept. 6 when they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Pritchett Field.
