The NCAA bowling season officially gets underway on Friday for the Bearkat bowlers when they will open their campaign at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational.
The three-day event will feature nine teams currently ranked in the NTCA Top 25 including five of the top eight teams in the country.
“This is always a great tournament for us to kick off the new season,” said Brad Hagen. “It’s a tournament we’ve had some success in the past and gives us a great opportunity to get the new season started with some momentum.”
In addition to winning the title in 2017, Madysen Keller also bowled the programs first and only individual 300 game. In all, the Kats have claimed the title at the Sugar Bowl Invitational four times since the start of the 2011-12 season.
This will be the second event of the year for the Bearkats, after participating last weekend at a USBC event in Fort Worth. The one-day event was an exhibition for the Bearkats competing against other college club programs. The Bearkats won all eight matches and were second in total pinfall.
Teams will compete in five 5 game baker matches on Friday, October 18th, followed by five traditional game matches on Saturday, October 19th. The teams will then be seeded based on total pins for the bracket round on Sunday, October 20th, which will be three baker best 4 out of 7 games. Final positions will be determined after the bracket results.
