TULSA, Okla. – The Sam Houston State women’s basketball team had a tough go of things on Saturday afternoon, falling 64-41 to Oral Roberts at the Mabee Center.
The Bearkats (2-3) hit just 27.8 percent from the floor, and 3-for-18 from long range in falling to the Golden Eagles (4-4) for the second straight season.
Faith Cook was the lone Bearkat to reach double figures in scoring with 10 points, while La’Sha Haynes was next in line with seven. Kiera McKinney had a team-high eight rebounds, but the Bearkats were edged 46-38 on the glass as a team, while also turning the ball over 24 times, leading to 23 ORU points.
Sam Houston trailed just 29-22 at the half, but went ice cold shooting in the second half, hitting just 5-for-29 from the field and 1-for-10 from 3-point range in the final 20 minutes as ORU pushed its lead to as much as 30 late in the fourth quarter.
Keni Jo Lippe led ORU with 23 points as one of three Golden Eagles in double figures.
The Kats will now return to Huntsville for a game against Jarvis Christian on Tuesday, December 3. They will then travel to UTSA and Oklahoma before opening up Southland Conference play at December 18 against Northwestern State.
