COLLEGE STATION – Jordan Leon and Hannah Tarrant paced the Sam Houston State cross country programs in the final action of the season as the Bearkats closed out action at the NCAA South Central Region Meet from the Dale Watts Course.
Leon took 80th among the 167-athlete field with a time of 32:09.0 in the men’s 10K. The junior was followed by teammate Grant Buley, who took 95th with a time of 32:23.5. Meanwhile, David Zavala took 98th with a mark of 32:29.9 to cap his freshman campaign.
Tarrant led the way for the women, taking 109th with a time of 22:27.7 in the 6K. Hailey Chorn secured 162nd at 24:11.6 and was followed by teammate Kassandra Luna in 163rd at 24:23.2. Four Bearkat competitors were unable to finish the race.
The men compiled a team score of 487 points, finishing 18th among the 24-team field. The Kats were right in the mix of fellow Southland Conference opponents as Stephen F. Austin finished 16th and Central Arkansas went 17th. The Kats were one spot ahead of Abilene Christian in 19th.
