2018 is off to a good start for the Bearkat Bowlers. After the first day of the Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State, the Kats sit on top of the leaderboard.

The No. 5 ranked Bearkats have a total pinfall of 5,111, and lead Nebraska by 58 pins. The Kats went 4-1 on the day.

"Today was a complete team effort in which everyone contributed on the lanes at one point or another," said head coach Brad Hagen. "The mix worked out well and there was a lot of great shots made today."

They opened the day with am153-pin win over Lincoln Memorial and followed that up with a 117-pin win over Alabama-Birmingham. Despite a 933 game, the Kats improved to 3-0 on the day with a 73-pin win over Texas Southern.

The only loss of the day was to Alabama State, eventhough the Bearkats rolled a 1,053 game. They bounced back and closed the day with their best game, rolling a 1,078 in a commanding 225-pin win over SFA.

"Overall I was very pleased with our ball reaction today and scoring," Hagen said. "The game plan today was to stick to what we drew up and minus making some pre competition ball adjustments everything came together. Hats off to Alabama State who we caught for our loss. They bowled great and are a team that’s emerging out of the SWAC."
