Throughout the season, Sam Houston freshman defender Ellie Chapple will provide a players' perspective of the Bearkat soccer campaign. The Bearkats open the Southland Conference Tournament on Wednesday, facing Stephen F. Austin for the second time in five days.
Chatting With Chappy -- 29 October 2017
As conference play comes to an end, we are starting to focus on the conference tournament. This year, it is held in Corpus Christi. I am very excited to play in the tournament for the first time – and hopefully not my last. We are leaving on Tuesday to head down to Corpus; we will have practice as soon as we get down there. Our first game is on Wednesday (at 11 AM) against SFA – again!! It was a tough loss against them last Friday. I believe my teammates played their hardest out there on the field. We were connecting passes, switching the ball from side to side, and creating chances to score. It will be an interesting rematch to say the least.
Now, let's talk about school. My classes have been good so far. I have been keeping up with my assignments/tests/projects. However, I have recently missed a few days due to traveling for soccer and traveling to see family. On the bright side, my teachers are all very understanding and helpful. They have been really kind about making sure I am able to remake assignments and tests. As the semester starts to wind down, I have been focusing on making sure I finish strong and do well on my finals. I am also excited about the classes I will be taking next semester. It's really cool how I am able to pick my classes and professors – it gets me excited to be in a class (It’s weird - I know. I enjoy school.).
The freshmen have still been getting along well. We have a lot of time together with soccer, classes, and living in very close proximity to each other. We are all accustomed to campus life now. We try to do things together when we can; some girls go eat dinner together or go grocery shopping together. My birthday was last week, so we all went out to eat together (except for Sammi – she was broke). It was a lot of fun getting dressed up and taking pictures. We are also starting to look at where we want to live next year. I must say it is a stressful process because I want to pick an affordable place close to campus and I want good roommates.
To wrap up this blog, everything has been going really well. I am really happy with my decision to come here. Although I am still new, I am excited for the years to come. I am looking forward to making more friends, getting a good education, and being the best soccer player I can be. I am truly blessed to be here at Sam Houston.
