HUNTSVILLE – Looking forward to another stellar season, the Sam Houston State men’s golf team opens up the 2018-19 season at the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, on Sept. 10-11. The tournament is set to take place at TPC San Antonio AT&T Oaks Course.

The field for the two-day tournament includes host UTSA, Arkansas State, Lipscomb, Little Rock, Louisiana, McNeese State, North Texas, Rice, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Texas State, UL Monroe, UT Arlington and UTEP.

Bearkat Bites

Returning a strong crop of veterans, SHSU brings back seniors Camden DeBonis and Austen Christiansen, as well as juniors Dominick Gennuso, Levi Valadez, Noah Steele and William Holcomb. Adding to the squad’s talent, welcome freshmen newcomers Grayson Blunt, Luis Carrera and Jack Randle.

Claiming the conference crown last season, the Bearkats relied on their play on the par threes and par fours to earn their first Southland title since 2015. They averaged 3.25 on the par threes and 4.33 on the fours. They sunk the most pars for the field, carding 160 for the tournament, and the second-most birdies at 37 for the tournament. They also tacked on two eagles.

Following its impressive conference championship performance, the Kats hit the road for the NCAA Regional in Norman, Okla. There, the Sam Houston State men’s golf team wrapped up the final day of the NCAA Golf Norman Regional with a 10-over round of 298 to finish 12th in the regional.
