HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State Bearkats will do their part to aid hurricane relief efforts across Texas as they have added an exhibition game vs UTSA on Nov. 5 at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum presented by Huntsville Memorial Hospital.

Pending approval of an NCAA waiver to allow for the exhibition, it will be set for 6:15 p.m. and will be paired with the Sam Houston women’s exhibition against LSU-Alexandria, a game set to begin at 3 p.m.

All proceeds will go to the Greater Houston Community Fund to benefit relief efforts from Hurricane Harvey.

Admission will be on a donation basis with a minimum $5 donation giving attendance to both games. No advance ticket sales will be available with attendees only able to make their donation on a walk-up basis. All seating will be general admission.

“Obviously this is for a great cause to be able to help those out who have gone through devastating circumstances,” Bearkat head coach Jason Hooten said. “Beyond that, it is a great opportunity for us to get a look at our team before we kick off for real. Our guys would much rather get a look at another team and it will be good for our fans and the community to be able to get a look at the team that we have this year.”

The first 150 students will receive free admission courtesy of donations from Hooten and women’s head coach Brenda Nichols. Students will need to swipe their Bearkat OneCard on game day for admission and can do so at Doors 26 and 27 with gates opening at 2 p.m., one hour prior to tipoff of the first game. The donation efforts have already started with Huntsville Memorial Hospital sponsoring the doubleheader.

The game against the Roadrunners will serve as the Bearkats’ lone warmup for the 2017-18 season with the season opener set for Nov. 11 against UT Tyler. The Bearkat women’s team is set to open up their season on Nov. 10 at Arkansas with the home opener scheduled for Nov. 17 against Wiley College.
