HUNTSVILLE – Coming off their first win in Southland Conference play, the Sam Houston State Bearkats will be looking to make some noise within the league when it travels to first-place Stephen F. Austin on Saturday afternoon.

The game can be watched online at ESPN3 or on the WatchESPN app. Bearkat fans will also get the chance to listen live with Jason Barfield and Jordan Smith calling the game over the air on KSHU 90.5 FM. Sam Houston broke through on Wednesday with its first win of Southland Conference play, 57-52, at Southeastern Louisiana. Sophomore guard Jenniffer Oramas had a career-best 24 points in the win and the Bearkat defense did a great job of holding the league’s leading scorer Taylin Underwood to just six points on 2-for-23 shooting, including 0-for-13 from 3-point range, for the game.

The Kats did it with a strong second half, outscoring the Lady Lions 39-25 in the final two quarters, including 17-8 in the fourth. They held Southeastern to just 25.8 percent shooting for the night.

But the Ladyjacks come into Saturday holding sole possession of first place in the Southland with a perfect 7-0 mark after a 13-point win over Central Arkansas on Wednesday. They have won nine in a row overall and are undefeated in 10 games at William R. Johnson Coliseum.

Stevi Parker leads SFA in both scoring and rebounding, putting in 11.8 points per game while pulling down a league-best 9.8 rebounds. The Ladyjacks rank second in both scoring offense (74.9 ppg) and defense (56.5 ppg).

Stephen F. Austin holds a commanding 62-12 advantage in the all-time series with the Bearkats. The Kats have dropped seven of the last nine meetings after the Ladyjacks took both games of the season series a year ago. Four of Sam Houston’s wins against SFA have come in Nacogdoches with the last two coming in back-to-back years in 2011-12 and 2012-13.
