Hardy, a native of San Saba, Texas, led the Bearkats team to a top three finish in both events in September.
"It is an honor be Player of the Month.," said Hardy. "As a sophomore this year, I had to improve my short game. You are not a good golf player unless you have a good short game. In golf you have to be on key with everything. I feel that I have improved since the beginning of the year and I am confident in my game I have been working hard all year and this award gave me a boost in my confidence."
At the Louisiana-Monroe Invitational, Hardy finished as the tournament individual runner-up with a score of 77-75-74--226. At North Texas, Hardy scored a 73-69-73--215 for fourth overall.
Hardy earned "Most Valuable Women's Golfer" honors for Sam Houston last spring after being named second team All-Southland Conference selection as a true freshman in 2009-10. She tied with teammate Kirsten Spittler for individual runner-up honors at the 2010 Southland Conference championship tournament.
"Shelby came from a small 2A school which was overwhelming for her at first. But once she got here, she realized that she had just as much talent as anyone else on the team," Chain said. "If Shelby continues to improve her game, by the time she is a senior she could be one of the best players we have ever had. I am very happy that she is Player of the Month, she deserves it and it is great that she received an honor like this."
Hardy and her Sam Houston teammates will be in action Monday and Tuesday October 11-12 at the Elkins Lake Fall Classic, the only home event in which the Bearkat women will participate this season.
