The Huntsville Bears youth football team of the Pop Warner League will be recognized as part of the special activities at Sam Houston State's football season opening game with nationally-ranked Western Illinois on Thursday Sept 1 at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium.

Kickoff for the SHSU-WIU battle is 6 p.m. The contest will be televised to a three-state regional network via Southland Conference TV.

Members of the Huntsville Bears team and cheerleader groups plus the coaches will be recognized as a group during the game. The Bears will participate in a special halftime scrimmage on the field at Bowers Stadium.

Showcase drills and techniques plus information on Pop Warner league football is available at . Weigh-in for players for the upcoming 2011 season is August 29. Cheerleaders are encouraged to participate and cheer for the league.

The first official game of the 2011 season will be Saturday Sept. 3. The first home game for the Huntsville Bears will be Saturday Oct. 1 at Kate Barr Ross Park.
