Sam Houston State running back Tim Flanders, who recorded his sixth 100-yard game of the season to led the Bearkats to a 36-14 non-conference win at Texas State, was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Flanders ran the ball 17 times for 132 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Bearkats topped Texas State 36-14 to cap an 11-0 undefeated regular season.

The conference's leading rusher set league records for most touchdowns (22) and most points (132) in a season. He also tied the conference mark with 20 rushing touchdowns this season, topping the 1987 record held by Sam Houston's Luther Turner.

Against Texas State, the sophomore from Midwest City, Okla. (Midwest City H.S.), scored on runs of 32 and 2 yards and had 20-yard catch-and-run to set up second score. Flanders' 132-yard day marked his sixth 100-yard game of 2011 and the 13th of career.

His 1,094 yards rushing this year is a school record for a sophomore and the fourth highest single-season total in school history. Flanders became the ninth Bearkat running back to total more than 2,000 career rushing yards (2,043).

Flanders' selection marks the 10th time this season a Bearkat has  earned Southland Conference "Player of the Week" honors.

Flanders is a three-time winner (New Mexico, McNeese and Texas State) while safety Darnell Taylor and wide receiver Richard Sincere each are two-time winners. Taylor won defensive honors for the Central Arkansas and Northwestern State games while Sincere  took offensive honors after the UCA & SFA games.

Linebacker Darius Taylor and safety Dax Swanson earned the defensive award after wins over SFA and Southeastern Louisiana, respectively.  Punter Matt Foster, completed the sweep of league honors after the SFA win with the special teams award.

Sam Houston is the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division I Championship Playoff. The Bearkats drew a bye in the first round and will play host to the winner of the first round matchup between Stony Brook and Albany Saturday, Dec. 3.

Tickets for Sam Houston's NCAA playoff games go on sale online at 10 a.m. Sunday and at the Bearkat athletic ticket office located in the Ron Mafrige Field House at Bowers Stadium at 8 a.m. Monday. The athletic ticket office telephone number is (936) 294-1729.
