The facelift for Elliott T. Bowers Stadium continues as the installation of 979 new orange chair back seats began Monday.

The old chair backs were removed in June. Those chairs were installed when the facility first opened for the 1986 Bearkat football season.

New wider, more comfortable orange chair back seats are replacing the old ones. Installation will be complete in time for Sam Houston's Sept. 8 season opening football game with Incarnate Word.

"This is one more step in our on-going project to keep our athletic facilities at Sam Houston State modern and fan friendly," SHSU director of athletics Bobby Williams said.

A limited number of chair back season tickets still remain on sale but they are going quickly.

Sam Houston State will play three home games in Bowers Stadium during the 2012 season, hosting Incarnate Word Saturday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. for Parents' Weekend; McNeese State Saturday, October 20 for Homecoming; and Southeastern Louisiana Saturday November 3. The final two games both will kickoff at 2 p.m.

The Bearkats also will play football contests in Houston against Texas Southern at the new Dynamo stadium Thursday, September 27, and with SFA in the annual "Battle of the Piney Woods" contest at Reliant Stadium October 6.
