The Golden Hurricanes scored in quick fluries of action to hand Sam Houston State a 6-0 loss in a non-conference soccer match at the University of Tulsa Sunday afternoon.
Tulsa totaled 22 shots during the match to up their season record to 3-0. The victory was their second over a Southland Conference foe this weekend as the Golden Hurricane also defeated Stephen F. Austin Friday night.
The scoring started with a pair of goals within less than a minute at the 15:19 and 15:44 mark. The first came on a shot by Lindsay Kirch that bounced off a defender into the goal and the second on a shot by Claire Nicholson from the middle of the box.
Stephanie Aitken tallied a pair of goals from 12 and 15 yards, respectively, out at the 33:28 and 43:42 marks.
Tulsa added two more second half goals on shots by Lindsay Kirch at the 54:09 mark and Emily Hahn at 56:43.
Sam Houston totaled six shots with freshman Jessica Toms taking three and sophomore Tricia Mallory two. Toms and Mallory each had a shot stopped by a save.
Following the match, Mallory and defender Emily Edenstrom were honored as selections to the Tulsa Invitational All-Tournament team.
The two matches in Tulsa this week are the first in a series of five consecutive road contests for the Bearkat soccer team.
Sam Houston faces Grambling State in Louisiana on Friday night then Rice next Sunday afternoon in Houston.
The next home game for the Bearkats is Sunday, Sept. 11 when Sam Houston plays host to Texas Southern at Joseph Pritchett Field in a 1 p.m. contest.
