DENTON - All the scoring took place in the first 17 minutes as North Texas handed Sam Houston a 3-1 loss in a non-conference women's soccer match Friday night at Mean Green Field.

The goal spree began just two minutes into the contest as North Texas forward Kelsey Hodges headed a cornerkick from Julie Lackey into the Bearkat goal.

Seven minutes later, Tricia Mallory knotted the game at 1-1, chipping in her fourth goal of the season after a long free kick from Kayla Anderson.

North Texas put in the match-winner 50 seconds later as Hannah Crawford scored on another cornerkick. Michelle Young added a an insurance goal in the 17th minute on a pass from Nikki Crocco.

The contest settled into a defensive battle for the final seventy minutes. Junior Michelle McCullough played the first half in goal for Sam Houston and redshirt freshman Mallory Garthwaite took over goalkeeper duties in the second half.

Sam Houston drops to 2-5 for the season while North Texas remains the only unbeaten NCAA Division I team in Texas with a 5-0-1 record.

After a three-week, five-match road swing, the Bearkats return home to Joseph Pritchett Field Sunday for a 1 p.m. match with Texas Southern.
