Kayla Anderson scored on a direct free kick to provide the winning goal as the Sam Houston women's soccer team defeated Prairie View A&M 1-0 on the Panthers' home field Sunday afternoon.

The victory completes Sam Houston's non-conference schedule for the 2011 season. The Bearkats have rolled up a 4-6-1 record in intersectional play. The loss dropped Prairie View to 0-11 for the year.

Anderson's goal was her third of the 2011 season and the 21st of the year for the Bearkat offense. Anderson scored just seven-and-a-half minutes into the contest. The Bearkats totaled 18 shots with 12 on goal but could not get another ball into the back of the net.

Mallory Garthwaite extended her scoreless streak in goal to 310 minutes with her third shutout of the year. The Bearkat defense allowed Prairie View A&M only two shots.

Sam Houston opens Southland Conference play with a road trip to Texas State and UTSA. The Bearkats face the Bobcats in San Marcos Friday night at 7 p.m. and the Roadrunners Sunday at 1 p.m.

The next home match for Sam Houston is Friday Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. with Northwestern State at Joseph Pritchett Field.
