PRAIRIE VIEW - The Sam Houston State soccer team scored early, and it proved to be enough as the Bearkats picked up their second victory of the season on the road with a 1-0 blanking of Prairie View A&M Sunday.

The Bearkats (2-5-0) got on the board in the 14th minute of the first half. Junior Courtney Pawlik collected her second goal of the season on a quick kick to the left corner of the net off an assist by freshman Brooke Jones.

Sam Houston State’s defense took over from there as the Panthers (1-6-0) managed just four shots, one in the first half and three in the second. Freshman Tatum Krueger and sophomore Abby DeLozier both saw time in the net for the Bearkats and each finished with a save.

Jones, senior Katy Johnson, sophomore Danielle Forsyth, junior Sammi Mayock and seniors Hannah Dupin, Carlota Suarez-Crespo and Josee Jacobellis accounted for Sam Houston State’s other nine shots on goal Sunday.

The Bearkats improved to 12-0 all-time versus Prairie View A&M.

Sam Houston State returns home this week to open Southland Conference play against Central Arkansas at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Pritchett Field.
