Preston Sanders has been named as "Most Valuable Student-Athlete" for the Sam Houston State University men's indoor track and field team.

The sophomore from Red Oak was the top finisher  for the Sam Houston men at the 2011 Southland Conference indoor meet in Norman, Oklahoma, finishing as the runner-up in the shot put.

His throw of 57 feet, three inches ranks as the seventh best indoor shot mark by a Bearkat.

The "Most Valuable Player" awards for the 2011-12 sports season were announced at the annual Sam Houston State University spring athletic banquet at the Lowman Student Center Ballroom on April 23
