Thibodaux, La. - Sarah Allison and Kim Damian continued Sam Houston's streak of power hitting to lead the Bearkat softball team to a 6-4 victory over Nicholls State in the Kats' 2012 Southland Conference opener Friday evening.

Allison hit her fourth home run of the season in the top of the second inning, scoring Ashley Isbell who singled. Damian blasted a three-run homer, her sixth of the year, in the fifth inning to score what proved to be the winning runs.

The two balls out of the park extended Sam Houston's streak of games with a homer to four and the Bearkats' winning streak to six games. SHSU hitters have produced eight home runs in the last four of those victories.

Tomi Garrison (4-6) spread seven hits over seven innings to earn the win. She struck out four Colonel batters. Katy Holder (3-6) took the loss for Nicholls.

The Colonels went scoreless the first three innings, but picked up a single run in the bottom of the fourth inning and five more in the bottom of the sixth.

Sam Houston State, now 7-13 for the year, and Nicholls, who dropped to 4-17 for the season, will complete the weekend two-game series Saturday at 12 noon.
