Conway, Ark. - Shortstop Sarah Allison's third inning home run accounted for Sam Houston's only run as Central Arkansas ended the Bearkat softball team's seven-game winning streak with a 5-1 win in the first of two Southland Conference weekend games.

The Bears jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a home run to left center by Mela Bryant. Liss Avitia and Nicole Beals added a pair of RBI singles in the bottom of the third for UCA's other two runs.

Tomi Garrison took the loss in the circle, giving up nine hits and striking out two Bear batters.

Allison provided two of Sam Houston's four hits in the game. Hillary Adams and Alyssa Coggins each added a hit.

Sam Houston and Central Arkansas will complete the series Saturday afternoon at 12 noon.

The SHSU softball team returns to the Bearkat Softball Complex Tuesday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader with Stephen F. Austin.
