Sam Houston extended its softball winning streak to six games with 2-0 and 4-3 victories over Houston Baptist in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday evening.

First baseman Kim Damian provided the game-winning hit with a third inning two-run single in the first game. An RBI double by second baseman Alyssa Coggins in the fifth inning proved to be the game-winner in the nightcap.

Damian's game-winner in the opener scored center fielder Tori Benavidez and second baseman Alyssa Coggins who both singled.

Freshman Meme Quinn (3-2) pitched her second complete game of the season in her fourth start as a Bearkat. Quinn struck out eight of the 25 batters she faced and did not give up a walk. Kendall Stiefel (4-7) took the loss.

Sam Houston totaled eight hits in the first game including a double by Benavidez. The Kats left eight runners stranded.

Michaela Granchelli gave Houston Baptist an early 1-0 lead in the second game with an RBI single to right field in the top of the third inning.

Third baseman Shelbi Tucker powered her sixth home run of the season just inside the left field foul pole in the bottom of the fourth to put the Bearkats back in control 3-1. The homer scored Coggins and Damian who led off the inning with singles.

The Huskies got a run back on an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning by first baseman Melissa Herman. With two outs, HBU had the bases loaded but left all three runners stranded. Coggins picked up an insurance run with a double in the bottom of the fifth to score Benavidez who singled.

Shelby Lancaster (5-5) was the winning pitcher in the second game with Tomi Garrison picking up her third save of the year.

Sam Houston State returns to Southland Conference action Friday at UTSA.
