Sam Houston State's Bob Brock became the 15th head softball coach in NCAA Division I history to post 1,000 career victories Wednesday as the Bearkats swept a doubleheader at Prairie View A&M.

The SHSU softball picked up a pair of shutouts, winning 3-0 and 9-0. Brock, who has coached for 27 years at Sam Houston, Texas A&M and Baylor, earned his 1,000th career win with the first victory and his 1,001th with the nightcap.

"All the credit goes to the great young women I've had the opportunity to coach," Brock, who is in his 10th season at Sam Houston State, said. Brock now holds a 1,001-603-1 overall record and stands 14th nationally among active Division I softball coaches in total victories.

Four Sam Houston players hit home runs in the doubleheader. Center fielder Tori Benavidez hit a solo shot in the first game. Sarah Allison, Erin Martin and Shelby Tucker each had home runs in the second contest.

Allison also had an RBI double in the opening contest.

Right-hander Tomi Garrison hurled a three-hitter to earn the victory in the circle in the 3-0 win. Garrison struck out four Panther batters.

Sophomore Shelby Lancaster was the game winner in the second contest, giving up three hits in four innings as the Kats run-ruled Prairie View.

Sam Houston totaled four hits in the first game and 10 in the nightcap.

The Bearkats return to Southland Conference action Friday at 6 p.m. when Sam Houston State plays host to Southeastern Louisiana.
