WACO – One inning was just enough for UT Arlington on Sunday as the Lady Mavs handed the Sam Houston State softball team a 3-0 defeat in the Getterman Classic championship on Sunday afternoon.
The Kats had gotten there by virtue of a win over Southern Miss on Saturday afternoon, while the Lady Mavs made the title game after an upset of No. 16 Baylor.
Center fielder Megan McDonald and third baseman Kyndal Kutac were named to the Getterman Class All-Tournament Team.
The Kats head to San Marcos to face off against the Texas State Bobcats (5-4) on Wednesday, February 20th at 5 pm.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior Lindsey McLeod was given the ball Sunday afternoon and pitched a solid 4.2 innings with six hits, one walk and three runs. She put up four straight zeros for the Kats (4-6) until the Lady Mavs (5-5) got to her in the top of the fifth with a three-run inning.
Three straight singles loaded the bases up for the Lady Mavs before a base-clearing triple to center field for Laura Curry put UTA ahead by three.
Karina Sanchez would come in to pitch 1.1 innings for the Kats, getting out of the fifth with no further damage done. Freshman pitcher Regan Dunn would come in at the top of the seventh to close things out for Sam Houston.
Offensively the Kats had five hits, two coming in the bottom of the seventh from pinch hitters Annie Bailey and Taylor Fuselier. Unlike Friday’s game against UTA, the Kats couldn’t rally and dropped the game 3-0.
