AUSTIN – The Sam Houston State Bearkats dropped the final game of the Texas Invitational on Sunday against a tough Tulsa team, 8-1, at McCombs Field.
The Kats head to Memphis, Tenn., where they will take part in the Blues City Classic. There they will face UT Martin, Memphis, Loyola-Chicago and Mississippi Valley State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Kats had a tough time throughout the day with Tulsa ace Samantha Pochop, who recorded 11 strikeouts for the day. Offensively the Kats only had five hits in the game, three of which came in the bottom of the fifth from Hunter Ervin, Ashley Goetz and Sheridan Fisher. The Kats picked up their lone run of the day against Pochop in that frame on an RBI single fro Goetz.
Regan Dunn got the start and worked into the fifth inning before a five-run frame broke the game open, thanks in large part to a Bearkat error that made each of the five runs unearned. Dunn finished with a pair of strikeouts before turning the game over to Annie Bailey and Darby Fitzpatrick, with Fitzpatrick going the final 1.2 innings without allowing a hit and registering a strikeout.
The Golden Hurricane added two more runs in the sixth and finished with eight hits on the day as a team.
