Led by Garrett Driver who finished as runner-up, three Sam Houston State men's golfers gave strong performances in the 101st Texas Amateur Championship golf tournament held at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas June 24-27.
Driver, Kort O'Leary and Scott Kelly all were among the 54 golfers who made the cut.
Driver, the Humble product who will be a senior on next season's Bearkat men's golf team, finished five strokes behind tournament champion Chris Ward. Driver's 72-hole total was a nine-under score of 68-69-69-69--275.
O'Leary, a junior from Waco / Midway, placed 23rd with a total of 71-69-70-77--287.
Kelly, the Kingwood product who represented Sam Houston in the NCAA regional last spring and will be a senior for the Kats this fall, placed 42nd with an 11-over total of 73-71-75-76--295.
