Tanya Postnikova has been named as "Most Valuable Player" for the 2012 Sam Houston State women's tennis team.

The junior from Kazahstand helped lead the Bearkat tennis team to an 12-9 record and the Bearkats' eighth consecutive Southland Conference post-season tournament appearance.

She compiled a 15-4 record at number four singles and paired with Nadia Dubyanskaya at number one doubles for 18 wins this year.

Postnikova earned first team All-Southland honors after posting a 9-2 record at number four singles, the best in the league in 2012 at that position.

The "Most Valuable Player" awards for the 2011-12 sports season were announced at the annual Sam Houston State University spring athletic banquet at the Lowman Student Center Ballroom on April 23.
