The event is the first of three intercollegiate regular season tournaments in which the Bearkats will appear. SHSU also will travel to the Kansas Jayhawk Invitational August 31 through September 1 and the Sugar Bowl Classic September 7 and 8.
Kansas, Nebraska-Omaha and Arkansas State will be the Kats' foes in Lawrence, Kansas. Mississippi State, Pittsburgh and Tulane will give the SHSU volleyball team a strong test in New Orleans.
Sam Houston also will travel to Texas State August 28 and Rice September 4 for non-conference action.
With four starters and five other letter winners returning from last year's 18-13 squad that finished third in the Southland Conference and reached the semifinals of the league's post-season tournament, the Bearkats look to be a threat again in the Southland race.
Oral Roberts joins the league this season and the Bearkats will have first crack at the new members on September 13 with conference play begins for SHSU at Johnson Coliseum.
Sam Houston also will play home Southland matches against Central Arkansas Sept. 15, Stephen F. Austin Oct. 4, Northwestern State Oct. 6, A&M-Corpus Christi Oct. 18, Southeastern Louisiana Nov. 1, Nicholls Nov. 3, McNeese State Nov. 8 and Lamar Nov. 10.
