Despite 17 kills by Carli Kolbe, Sam Houston State fell in four sets to Texas State Saturday night in San Marcos.

In a battle of the teams ranked second and third in the Southland Conference West Division, the Bobcats picked up their second victory over the Bearkats this season, winning 25-21 25-16 21-25 25-16.

Texas State upped its season record to 20-6 and stands 11-1 in conference matches. The Bearkats fell to 13-12 for the year and 7-5 in league play.

Kolbe accounted for 17 of the Bearkats' 39 kills. Kim Black and Kendall Cleveland each had four.

Kolbe also was credited with 17 digs. Kaylee Hawkins added 12 digs on defense. Kym Loving assisted on 31 of the Bearkats' 39 kills.

Texas State jumped out to early leads and fought off Bearkat rallies in both the first and second sets. The Bobcats led 10-5 in the first and 12-6 in the second.

Sam Houston came back in the third to go up 17-9 and hold on to win the frame by four points. The Bearkats never led in the fourth set.

Ashlee Hilbun led the Bobcats with 10 kills. The Bobcats committed only 24 hitting errors while the Bearkats totaled 34.

Southland West Division leader UTSA visits Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum on Thursday night. The Roadrunners are unbeaten in 12 conference matches this year. First serve is a 7:05 p.m. Thursday.
