SAN MARCOS – It was a tough finish for the Sam Houston State Bearkats in the Creeds & Crest Classic on Saturday afternoon as Texas State handed the Kats a 3-0 defeat at Strahan Arena in the tournament finale.
Samantha Rodgers had 10 kills, but the Kats would only hit .124 for the match while the Bobcats hit .291 and had 9.0 blocks as a team. Addison Miller had 15 digs and Morgan Janda had 15 assists, but Texas State got 15 kills from Tyeranee Scott to lead the way on a day that saw them hit no lower than .229 in any of the three sets.
The Kats also got eight kills from Ashley Lewis and seven from Catherine Krieger, but had no other player with more than Breanne Chausse’s four. Still, Chausse was one of two Kats to be named to the all-tournament team at the conclusion of the event after finishing with 35 kills in the weekend’s three matches.
Elise Smith also landed on the all-tournament team after adding a pair of blocks to her weekend total. She finished with 13 total blocks in the tournament to go with eight kills.
Saturday’s match also served as the conclusion of non-conference play for the Bearkats with Southland Conference play set to begin on Thursday at Northwestern State.
