Sam Houston pitchers Cody Dickson, Michael Hilliard, Michael Oros and Michael Burchett combined to strike out 14 batters as the Bearkats posted their sixth shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over Texas Southern Tuesday at Don Sanders Stadium.

Sam Houston (30-17) out hit Texas Southern (20-23) 7-5 as the Bearkats picked up runs  on an RBI single by third baseman Kevin Miller in the fourth inning and a Tiger error in the fifth.

After three scoreless innings, Miller brought in Sam Houston's first run with a single to right field. The hit scored catcher Doug Oney who singled then reached second on a wild pitch.

Second baseman Ryan Mooney doubled to start the fifth inning. Right fielder Greg Olson followed up with a single to move Mooney to third and the second baseman scored on a Tiger error to put the Kats up 2-0.

A pair of one-out walks in the top of the seventh allowed Texas Southern to put runners on first and third, but a double play took away another Tiger scoring chance.

Dickson (4-1) was the winning pitcher, spreading four hits over six and one third innings while striking out 11 Tigers. Hilliard added two strike outs and Burchett fanned one as he picked up his sixth save of the season throwing in the final inning.

Oney led the Bearkats at the plate, going 2-for-4.

Sam Houston now heads to Nacogdoches for a three-game series with Stephen F. Austin beginning Friday.
