The victory gave the Bearkats a three-game sweep of SFA since the Jacks brought baseball back to their sports program in 2006. Sam Houston (33-17, Southland 16-11) out-hit SFA 10-7 as the Lumberjacks fell to 30-17 and 17-10 in league action.
Catcher Doug Oney gave Sam Houston a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Oney singled, moved to second then scored on a Stephen F. Austin throwing error.
The Lumberjacks jumped in front with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning after an RBI single by Justin McAninch and a sacrifice fly by Riley Huble.
Andreas tied the game with a bases loaded single to shortstop in the top of the ninth. Hudson brought in the winning run with a sacrifice fly.
With two outs and a runner on second base, SFA's Jordan Lewis singled to right fielder. Olson gunned down base runner Jackson Hood at home plate.
Caled Smith was the starting pitcher for Sam Houston, striking out two batters in five and a third innings. Brent Powers (5-3) got the victory in relief.
the Bearkats will take time off for finals then head on the road again for a three-game series at Central Arkansas next weekend.
The Bearkats will play their final regular season series at home with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Thursday, May 19 through Saturday May 21. The series marks Mark Johnson's final appearance at Don Sanders Stadium as Bearkat head coach. The 44th head coach to win more than 1,000 games at the NCAA Division I level will retire at the end of the 2011 season.
Johnson will be honored in special pregame ceremonies on Friday, May 20.
