Fresh from winning their three-game series with San Diego on the opening weekend of the 2012 college baseball season, Sam Houston State returns to Don Sanders Stadium Tuesday for another non-conference encounter.
Prairie View A&M visits at 4:30 p.m. The Panthers started their season with an 0-3 record, falling to Southern, Texas Southern and Grambling State.
Sam Houston bounced back from a 5-3 loss in their first game Friday in the San Diego series to win 3-2 Saturday and 10-3 Sunday.
"It was a good opening series for us," Sam Houston head coach David Pierce said. "We still have a lot of work to do, but there were a lot of things we did well."
Third baseman Kevin Miller and outfielders Luke Plucheck and Colt Atwood led the Kats at the plate. Miller hit .429 in the series, going 6-for-14 with two doubles and four RBIs. Atwood hit .333 and Plucheck .375.
Justin Jackson and Michael Oros earned the two victories on the mound. Jackson did not allow a single hit in four innings, strike out two. Oros pitched three-and-a-third innings in relief, striking out three and giving up only one hit.
Following the Prairie View A&M game Tuesday, Sam Houston will head to Louisiana-Monroe for a three-game series.
