Waco - Errors in the bottom of the third and fourth innings proved to be Sam Houston's undoing as the Bearkats lost a non-conference baseball game with No. 25 ranked Baylor 6-2 Tuesday evening.

Left fielder Luke Plucheck led the Kats at the plate, accounting for three of SHSU's eight hits. Plucheck's triple to left center brought in Sam Houston's second run in the sixth. The hit scored center fielder Colt Atwood who singled.

First baseman Ryan O'Hearn led off the fifth inning with a walk and scored on a single by right fielder Jake Arrington.

Baylor broke open a scoreless game with a four-run third inning that started with the leadoff hitting reaching base on an infield throwing error. Designated hitter Nathan Orf and third baseball Cal Towey both singled to bring in a pair of runs and the other two Bear base runners scored on ground outs.

Second baseball Lawton Langford produced an RBI single and a second run scored on a Bearkat error in the fourth inning.

Atwood and Arrington each posted two hits. Starter Brandon Bergen was the losing pitcher for Sam Houston, giving up three hits in three innings while striking out two batters. Michael Burchett, Andrew Godail, Marshall Davis and Allan Scott all pitched in relief.

Trent Blank was the winning pitcher for Baylor.

Sam Houston returns home to Don Sanders Stadium for a three-game weekend series with UC-Riverside. The first game is Friday at 6:30 p.m.
