No. 9 ranked Texas A&M totaled 18 hits and took advantage of eight walks by Bearkat pitching, three with the bases loaded, to hand No. 21 Sam Houston State a 10-0 non-conference baseball loss Tuesday.

The contest was played before 2,032 fans, the largest crowd in the seven-year history of Don Sanders Stadium in Huntsville. The previous attendance record was 1,821 against the Aggies in 2008.

A&M pitcher Daniel Mengden picked up his first win in four decisions this season, allowing the Kats only two hits in the first five innings. Sam Houston runners reached third base twice against Mengden but could not score. He struck out six Bearkat batters in seven innings work.

The Aggies upped their season record to 32-13 while Sam Houston now stands 31-14.

A&M loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the third but managed only one run. Second baseman Scott Arthur's sacrifice fly scored catcher Troy Stein who walked. The Bearkats turned a double played to get out of the inning.

Right fielder Chance Bolcerek tripled to left center with one out in the fourth inning then scored on a sacrifice fly by left fielder Brandon Wood to extend the Aggie lead to 2-0.

A&M loaded the bases again with no outs in the top of the fifth on consecutive singles by designated hitter Mitchell Nau, shortstop Mikey Reynolds and second baseman Scott Arthur. All three scored on Bearkat walks and pinch hitter Matt Juengel singled in another run.

The Aggies added single runs in each of the next three innings.

Starter Michael Oros (6-1) was the losing pitcher. Sam Houston State used seven other pitchers in the contest.

The Bearkats return to Southland Conference action this weekend, playing a three game series at UT-Arlington.
