The Bearkat baseball team outhit Missouri State 10-3 but couldn't maximize the opportunities and lost 3-2 Saturday in the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos.

Ryan O'Hearn drove in the first run of the season for the Bearkats in the sixth inning. Luke Plucheck led off the inning with a walk and was moved to second on an Anthony Azar ground out. O'Hearn then singled up the middle to drive in Plucheck.

Sam Houston scored again in the eighth inning off of a Kevin Miller single. Miller's base hit was the third consecutive hit in the inning. Plucheck grounded out to lead off the inning before Azar and O'Hearn each singled. The Kats stranded two runners in the inning.

The Bearkats left nine on base for the game including one in each of the first four innings.  The fifth inning was the only frame that a Kat did not reach base.

Cody Dickson pitched four innings and allowed all three runs. Dickson gave up only two hits and struck out five but walked six.

Each Missouri State run scored after reaching on a free pass. In the first, Dylan Becker led off with a walk and later scored on a wild pitch. In the third, Tate Matheny led off with a walk and scored on a Keenen Maddox double. Becker then led off the fifth with a walk and scored the Bears third run.

Jason Simms pitched the final four innings for the Kats. The junior transfer from Blinn kept the Bears off the board and allowed only one hit and one walk with three strikeouts.

Sam Houston will play Texas State at 3 p.m. Sunday in the final game of the Bobcat Invitational.
