Luke Plucheck hit a two-run double in the top of the ninth to lead the Bearkats to a 10-9 victory over Texas State in the Bobcat Classic Sunday.
Freshman Logan Boyd pitched 2.1 innings in relief to get the win. Boyd stopped the bleeding after the Kats had blown an 8-1 lead by allowing eight runs in the seventh inning.
Derek Barosh loaded the bases to start the seventh inning and was replaced by Juan Cortina. Cortina immediately got a strikeout but then allowed a bases-loaded walk and a two-run double. Burchett came in and gave up three more runs while only getting one out before Boyd got the Kats out of the inning.
Andrew Godail was the Sam Houston starter. The sophomore lefty gave up just one run in five innings of work. Godail struck out five and walked four.
Anthony Azar went 3-3 with three RBI and two walks. Azar drove in the first run of the game on a single in the opening frame. The junior also drove in a pair of runs on a single in the sixth inning.
Every Bearkat starter had at least one hit in the game. The Kats outhit Texas State 14-9.
Bobcat starter Scott Grist pitched 4.2 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits.
The Bearkats will return to Don Sanders Stadium for their home opener against Houston Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
