Led by Luke Plucheck’s four RBI game, Sam Houston rebounded from Friday night’s loss to beat Lamar, 7-4, and set up a pivotal rubber game Sunday. First pitch for the series clincher is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Plucheck hit a two-RBI triple in the first inning as the Bearkats (20-14, 8-3) put up four in the first frame. The junior left fielder drove in two more runs on a double in the third inning. He finished 3-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored.

Starter Andrew Godail picked up the win with 6 2/3 innings pitched allowing four runs on five hits and three walks. The sophomore is now 4-1 on the season and the Kats are 7-2 in games he starts.

The Bearkats tacked on another run in the sixth inning when second baseman Jessie Plumlee singled to left field to score Plucheck.

Jason Simms pitched the final 2 1/3 innings in relief and recorded his fifth save of the season. The junior allowed just two hits and struck out one.

Winners of their first three Southland series, the Kats will look to stay at the top of the league standings with a win Sunday.

Sam Houston will host nationally ranked Texas A&M Tuesday at Don Sanders Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and a large crowd is expected. Purchase tickets online by clicking here or over the phone by calling 936-294-1729.
