Sam Houston scored three runs in the eighth inning to come from behind to beat Central Arkansas, 6-5, and complete the sweep.

The Bearkats (36-18, 20-7) ripped three doubles in the eighth to rally and take care of the Bears. Third baseman Kevin Miller and first baseman Ryan O’Hearn hit back-to-back doubles to score the first run.

After left fielder Luke Plucheck was hit by a pitch, shortstop Carter Burgess hit a double to left to plate O’Hearn and put Plucheck on third. A passed ball scored the third run and gave the Kats a 6-5 lead.

Sam Houston State gave up a run in each of the first two innings. In the first frame, a leadoff single came around to score on a squeeze bunt by left fielder Ethan Harris. A leadoff hit batter came around to score in the second inning.

After a scoreless top of the third from Caleb Smith, the Kats tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom half. Senior right fielder Greg Olson led off with a single and second baseman Ryan Farney sacrificed him to second.

Center fielder Colt Atwood singled to put runners on the corners. Anthony Azar, who started at first base and later moved to catcher, singled to score Olson. Miller followed with a single to score Atwood.

UCA loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth inning to chase starter Caleb Smith from the game. The Bears already had plated one run in the inning before reliever Michael Burchett gave up a two-run single.

Alan Scott reliever Burchett and got a strikeout to end the inning. Scott pitched a scoreless seventh inning as well.

Designated hitter Hayden Simerly hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh to get the Kats within two runs of the Bears.

Sam Houston will play McNeese State Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas.
