The Bearkats used a five-run sixth inning to rally and take the series over Oral Roberts with a 7-4 win Sunday. Sam Houston (21-11, 6-6 SLC) had lost two straight Southland series heading into Tulsa, Okla. and were able to get back on track in league play.
Reliever Sam Odom entered the game in the third inning and pitched the final seven innings of the ballgame. He allowed just two runs and struck out four batters.
After having just two base runners through the first five innings, center fielder Travis Lee got the sixth inning started with an infield single and moved all the way to third on an error by the pitcher. Shortstop Corey Toups got the Kats on the board with an RBI-single to left.
Catcher Anthony Azar came through with the big hit as he blasted his seventh home run of the season to give SHSU a 3-2 lead. Third baseman Carter Burgess and designated hitter Dylan Ebbs each singled to extend the inning and scored on singles by left fielder Luke Plucheck and second baseman Ryan Farney.
Azar added another run on a groundout in the seventh inning and right fielder Hayden Simerly drove in the seventh run on a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
ORU scored a run in each of the first two innings and added another pair of runs on a homer in the eighth inning.
The Kats will return to Don Sanders Stadium to host Baylor Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and host a weekend series against Abilene Christian.
