Sam Houston held a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, however, the flood gates opened as UCA loaded the bases and scored runs on a hit batter, an error and a base on balls.
Blake Roberts, Forrest Allday and Ed Harris each produced two-run singles as the Bears totaled nine innings before the Kats could end the inning.
First baseman Ryan O'Hearn scored Sam Houston's first run with an RBI single in the opening inning. Catcher John Hale added another run in the second inning and blasted a solo home run in the seventh. Second baseman Jessie Plumlee added sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.
The Bears picked up three more runs after an SHSU error in the bottom of the sixth. Both teams ended the night with 11 hits.
Justin Jackson was the losing pitcher for the Bearkats.
Sam Houston won the opening game of the series with a 12-2 victory Thursday. The two will complete the weekend series Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will complete the regular season for both teams.
The Bearkats, now 35-18 for the season and 23-9 in Southland Conference play, clinched the Southland Conference regular season championship and the No. 1 seed at the Southland tournament which begins Wednesday in San Marcos.
UCA now stands 25-27 for the year and 16-16 in league action.
