SAN ANTONIO – Michael Rocket’s RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning scored the winning run for the Roadrunners as Texas-San Antonio defeated Sam Houston State 5-4 to earn a sweep in a three-game Southland Conference baseball series Sunday.
The victory upped UTSA’s season record to 32-12. The Roadrunners, Southland Conference West Division leaders now stand 17-4 in league play. Sam Houston State dropped to 26-18 for the year and 12-9 in SLC action.
Down 4-1, Sam Houston tied the game with three runs in the top of the eighth inning. Todd Sebek doubled, then scored on a Bobby Verbick single. After a Ryan Trevino single, Seth Hammock slapped a double to score both Verbick and Trevino and tie the game.
UTSA jumped out to a 4-0 lead, scoring all four runs in the fourth inning. Sam Houston scored its first round in the fifth as Nick Zaleski doubled, was singled to third on a single by Mark Wyatt, then scored on a ground out by Ryan Weber.
Guillaume Duguay went the distance on the mound for Sam Houston State, striking out six UTSA batters.
Sam Houston State will play host to Dallas Baptist Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Don Sanders Stadium in the next action for the Bearkats.
