HUNTSVILLE -- Designated hitter Chris Andreas hit a two-out bases loaded single in the bottle of the eighth inning to give Sam Houston State a 9-8 non-conference baseball victory over Houston Baptist Tuesday night at Don Sanders Stadium.  

Sam Houston (7-13) totaled its nine runs on 10 hits and two HBU errors. First baseman Daniel Nottebart hit solo home runs in the second and seventh innings. Right fielder Greg Olson led the Bearkats at the plate going 3-for-4 with one RBI.  

Houston Baptist (6-10) totaled 11 hits. The Huskees were led by catcher Jonathan Moore who went 3-for-4.  

Matt Shelton (4-2) was the winning pitcher for Sam Houston, throwing the final two and two thirds innings. Shelton struck out four of the 10 batters he faced and gave up only one hit.  

Andrew Massey started and Michael Burtchett and Michael Hilliard each pitched in relief.   Tyler McCarty (0-2) was the loser for Houston Baptist.  

HBU led 3-2 after three innings, but Sam Houston rallied for four runs in the fourth inning to build a 6-3 margin. The Huskies scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-7 lead. Sam Houston scored a run in both the seventh and eight frames.  

Sam Houston STate will play host to Prairie View A&M Wednesday at Don Sanders Stadium at 6:30 p.m. The Bearkats travel to UTSA for a three-game Southland series this weekend.
