Ryan Mooney led the way for the Kats at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. The other run from the Kats came off the bat of Kevin Miller.
Brent Powers got the start and took the loss for the Kats, allowing five runs on six hits in just three innings of work. Once again, the Kats had some defensive miscues, committing three errors.
Northwestern State collected 17 hits on three Bearkat pitchers (Brandon Kimbrel and Daniel Nottebart).
The Demons scored one run in the first inning and two more in the third. The Kats were able to come back with one in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 3-1. But the bottom of that frame, Northwestern State broke the game open with four runs.
The Bearkats and the Demons will conclude the series on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Next home action at Don Sanders Stadium for the Bearkats will be a Southland Conference series with McNeese State beginning Friday night, March 9.
