Hammond, La -- Catcher Josh Cryer's walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning powered Southeastern Louisiana to a 6-5 victory and a Southland Conference baseball series sweep of Sam Houston Sunday afternoon.
The Bearkats led 2-1 in the sixth and rallied to tie the game 5-5 in the top of the ninth inning on a pinch hit three-run homer by Tyler Fiebrich.
But, after a two-out single by Cody Gougher, pinch runner Phillip Freeman reached second after a hit batter and third on a passed ball before scoring on Cryer's single.
The loss was the seventh in a row for Sam Houston (17-32 9-18 Southland) as the Bearkats now have dropped 14 of their last 16 games.
Southeastern Louisiana (36-14 18-9) took control of the game with a four-run sixth inning sparked by a bases loaded three-run double by Cass Hargis.
Sam Houston took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth after back-to-back doubles by Braeden Riley and Mark Hudson and an RBI single by Taylor Davis.
Brandon Kimbrell started on the mound for Sam Houston, giving up six hits in five and two thirds innings. Reliever Matt Shelton (5-4) took the loss. Josh Janway (4-1) was the winner in relief for Sam Houston State.
The Bearkats take five days off for final exams before returning to action in their final Southland Conference home series of the 2010 season. Sam Houston will play host to Central Arkansas Friday through Sunday at Don Sanders Stadium.
