Mean Green edge Bearkats 53-50
Denton - Chris Jones scored 14 points including a jumper for the game-winning points with 1:06 to play as North Texas edged Sam Houston 53-50 in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday night.
Konner Tucker and Darius Gatson led Sam Houston (3-6), each with 10 points. Demarcus Gatlin added eight points and led the Bearkats with seven rebounds.
North Texas (4-6) overcame a seven-point SHSU lead in the first half and a three-point 25-22 Kat margin at intermission for the victory. The Mean Green out-scored Sam Houston 31-25 in the second half.
The contest was tied six times and saw 12 lead changes.
Gatson hit two free throws to give the Bearkats a 50-49 lead with 1:18 to play. After Jones hit the jumper to put North Texas back in front, Michael Holyfield missed two free throws.
Jacob Holman added two more free throws to give North Texas a three-point lead. The Bearkats missed two three point attempts in the final seconds.
