Aurimas Majauskas, a 6-8, 235-pound post player from Future College Prep in Carson, Calif., has become the third student-athlete to sign a letter-of-intent to attend Sam Houston State University and play men’s basketball for head coach Jason Hooten.

A native of Marijampole in Lithuania, Majuaskas averaged 11.5 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists for a squad that set a national prep record with 52 victories during the 2012-13 season.  He was named as the team’s “Most Valuable Player.”

Majauskas totaled 18 performances with double figure points and rebounds. He was named to three all-tournament teams. Both his top scoring and rebounding performances came in a contest versus the Korea College All-Stars in which he totaled 34 points and 18 boards.

“We’re excited about signing a highly skilled inside player with a high basketball IQ,” Hooten said. “He plays well with his back to the basket but also can face up and score out to the three point line. The best part about Aurimas is that he is a mature freshman and will be here at Sam Houston for four years.”

Signing with Sam Houston earlier this week were guards Kaheem Ransom and Jabari Peters who led Seward County to a championship season in Kansas this past season.

“Not only are the Bearkats getting a quality player in Aurimas, they are getting a quality kid as well,” Future College Prep assistant coach David Rice said. “He is one of the hardest working players we had this season. He is always respectful to everyone and is a great example both on and off the court.”
