Marcus James received honors as the "Most Valuable Player" for the 2011-12 Sam Houston State men's basketball team.

The senior from Waterbury, Conn.,was the fourth leading scorer and the top rebounder for the 2012 Bearkat men's basketball team.

James totaled 307 points and 226 rebounds as a senior this year. He was the team's top rebounder in 15 games and scored in double figures in 14 contests.

The "Most Valuable Player" awards for the 2011-12 sports season were announced at the annual Sam Houston State University spring athletic banquet at the Lowman Student Center Ballroom on April 23.
