For more than 23 minutes the Sam Houston women stayed with No. 11 ranked Kentucky before the Wildcats pulled away in the second half for a 73-52 non-conference victory over the Bearkats at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington.

Sequeena Thomas and Britni Martin each scored 13 points. A jumper by Thomas at the 10:06 mark in the first half gave Sam Houston its only lead 15-13. The Wildcats finished the first half with a 20-15 run to take a 35-28 lead into the locker room at intermission.

Jasmine Johnson cut the margin to seven points, 39-32 with a jumper in the first minute of the second half. Kentucky finally pulled away after a 15-4 run to go up 54-36 with 12:26 remaining.

Sam Houston stands 2-2 for the season while Kentucky remains unbeaten at 6-0.

Angela Beadle also scored in double figures with 12 points. Thomas produced her third game with double figure points and rebounds, pulling down 10 boards for the Kats.

Turnovers proved to be the key factor for the Wildcats. Kentucky scored 31 points off Sam Houston's 26 turnovers. The Wildcats totaled 20 steals.
