Western Ky transfer joins Kat women's basketball

Summer Fife of Western Kentucky University will transfer to Sam Houston State to join the Bearkat women's basketball program, head coach Brenda Nichols has announced.

Fife will red-shirt during the 2012-13 season and have three years of eligibility for the Bearkats beginning in 2013-14.

The 5-11 guard led Liberty Christian School in Fort Worth to a state championship in 2011 after a runner-up finish in 2010. Fife scored 19 points in the 2011 championship finals to earn a spot on the all-state tournament team. She posted 35 points in the 2010 finals.

Fife was a TAPPS first team All-State selection as a senior and was named to the All-State team and TAPPS Class 4A "Player of the Year" as a junior after averaging 15.5 points and 3.7 rebounds.

She played her freshman and sophomore years at Fossil Ridge High School, twice earning all-district honors.
