Summer Fife of Western Kentucky University will transfer to Sam Houston State to join the Bearkat women's basketball program, head coach Brenda Nichols has announced.

Fife will red-shirt during the 2012-13 season and have three years of eligibility for the Bearkats beginning in 2013-14.

The 5-11 guard led Liberty Christian School in Fort Worth to a state championship in 2011 after a runner-up finish in 2010. Fife scored 19 points in the 2011 championship finals to earn a spot on the all-state tournament team. She posted 35 points in the 2010 finals.

Fife was a TAPPS first team All-State selection as a senior and was named to the All-State team and TAPPS Class 4A "Player of the Year" as a junior after averaging 15.5 points and 3.7 rebounds.

She played her freshman and sophomore years at Fossil Ridge High School, twice earning all-district honors.
